Pray for Kalimantan!

Kalimantan has been battling forest fires for several months now, yet the region remains blanketed by thick, suffocating smoke as fires continue to ravage the forests. Rain has been extremely scarce, severely hindering firefighting efforts. The situation is further exacerbated by widespread wildfires (karhutla), which have affected the entirety of Kalimantan and spread to neighboring countries, causing air quality to deteriorate drastically over time.

Vulnerable groups such as infants, children, the elderly, and pregnant women are the most severely affected, and the disaster has already claimed numerous lives. The thick smoke has triggered around 306,306 cases of Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI). Beyond health issues, the advancing fires have also destroyed the homes of residents living near the forest edges.

As guardians (khalifah) on Earth, it is our duty to protect nature and prevent destruction, ensuring that disasters like forest fires and floods do not occur.

In the holy Al-Qur’an, Surah Ar-Rum verse 41 reminds us: "Corruption has spread on land and sea as a result of what people’s hands have done, so that Allah may cause them to taste (the consequences of) some of their deeds and perhaps they might return (to the Right Path)."

That concludes our message. May the fires in Kalimantan be extinguished swiftly. Pray for Kalimantan!
