Hey, I've experienced this too, its technically not about the mod, but the game itself. When there is too much around for example mobs— the game tends to lag which you've said—it slows down. Another example is chunks—the more chunks you load the slower your game becomes. So all in all its not about the mods itself, its the developers who made Minecraft. Hope this helps!
