Potions Reimagined

Potions Reimagined improves and expands Minecraft Bedrock’s brewing system in a clean, vanilla-friendly way.

This addon introduces new potions, adds more progression to potions, rebalances existing potions and adds a new Brewing Stand used for large potions without changing how Minecraft fundamentally plays.

Large potions have a bigger impact compared to their smaller version's, but cost more. Large bottles require prismarine shards, giving players more reason to take a dive into the ocean. Infused Bottles require a Heart of the Sea but give you insane potential in return, boosting effect or duration.

Vials are a new kind of potion found in abandoned structures. They are left behind by an older civilisation whom used a lesser brewing technique. Their duartion is a lot shorter, but they stack and are quicker to use.

The Reinforced Brewing Stand fits seamlessly into late-game progression and uses familiar brewing ingredients and their recipes, closely matching vanilla brewing behavior.

NEW in 2.2.0:

  • Added more potions using vanilla effects
  • Fixed throwable potion texture issue
  • Lingering circle doesn't get affected by other potions anymore
  • Fixed a few other minor issues, like some brewing recipes not working like intended

New potions:

  • Blindness ( Awkward with Ink Sac)
  • Haste (Awkward with Echo Shard, also available as vial)
  • Levitation (Awkward with Shulker Shell)
  • Mining Fatigue (Haste with Fermented Spider Eye)
  • Nausea (Water Breathing with Fermented Spider Eye)

Reinforced Brewing Stand

A look at the Reinforced Brewing Stand placed in-game, featuring a vanilla-inspired design that fits naturally alongside existing blocks.

Potions

All potions have been overhauled, drinkable potions have been buffed (increased duration), splash potions have been rebalanced (splash potions had the same duration as drinkable potions making drinkable potions practicly useless, since they are faster and can be shared. By shortening the duration, drinkable becomes better when going solo, but splash is still faster in use, can be shared and can be thrown a lot farther now making it a great support tool for the players who want to help their mates from a distant.) Lingering didnt really have a function in vanilla, only instant healing was usefull for it's high healing burst potential, my version of lingering stays down for an entire minute, giving 15% of its max duration when entering the cloud. In 20 seconds the duration goes from 0 to full. The 15% instant boost gets only applied once per player. Players can leave the cloud anytime they want with the duration they gathered, after leaving the cloud the duration starts counting down, re-entrering the cloud restarts gathering duration. The duration timer is capped at the max effect duration, so if the player stands in the cloud from start to end, they have had an entire minute extra duration. Its max duration sits between splash and drinkable, since it can be shared like splash, uses dragon breath and is more versatile than drinkable potions.

(Large drinkable potions have 3 times the duration length in a single slot compared to its smaller counterpart, but can't be shared. Splash and lingering potions have twice the max duration, but take the same resources as the small potions. They also have a larger radius than the smaller variant. The large splash potion has less duration drop off, so hitting friend or foe with it's full duration is easier, while missing by a bit is less punishing. Large lingering stays down for an entire 2 minutes, making it more versatile for group fights.)

(example: swiftness)

Drinkable potions:

  • glowstone dust = 4 minutes (large = 12 minutes)
  • standard ingredient = 8 minutes (large = 24 minutes)
  • redstone dust = 12 minutes (large = 36 minutes)

Splash potions:

  • glowstone dust = 2 minutes (large = 4 minutes)
  • standard ingredient = 4 minutes (large = 8 minutes)
  • redstone dust = 6 minutes (large = 12 minutes)

Lingering potions:

  • glowstone dust = 3 minutes (large = 6 minutes)
  • standard ingredient = 6 minutes (large = 12 minutes)
  • redstone dust = 9 minutes (large = 18 minutes)

Infused Potions give the user additional bonusses. Potions that can be improved with glowstone dust will have a +1 effect boost. For example: swiftness 2 (4:00) --> swiftness 3 (4:00) and strength (12:00) --> strength 2 (12:00). Potions that only get a duration buff with redstone get a +50% duration boost. For example: night vision (12:00) --> night vision (18:00). Infused potions are easily recognizable by their bright blue glass and shining glint effect.

Vials are a new type of potion that have a really short duration, but stack and are quicker in use. They can be found in abandoned structures or traded for with wandering traders. Vials spawn depending on the kind of structure, you aren't gonna find water breathing for example in the Nether. Some vials are more rare than others so depending on your luck, you may find some kinds more often than others. The vials are only available with positive effects, since they can't be thrown.

Brewing Process

A short preview of the Reinforced and custom Brewing Stand in use.
Brewing time is 10 seconds, making it shorter than vanilla, this is because the player has slightly less feedback while brewing. Fuel can only be added when if there's nothing else in the brewingstand. Taking things out of the brewingstand can be done by sneak-clicking, this takes everything out of the brewingstand except for fuel. I've added a queue function so all ingredients can be thrown in after eachother, but make sure to do it in the right order.

Improved throwing mechanic

A very short demonstration to show how far potions can be thrown with my add-on. The first potion is a vanilla splash, the second my custom splash version and the last one is a large splash potion.

Future Plans

This is my first addon, and I plan to continue updating it.
Future versions may include:

  • Custom Reinforced Brewing Stand UI
  • Tipped arrow support (and maybe as an extra lingering mechanic)
  • An early game brewing mechanic

If you have something you'd like to see added in the future, have different feedback or encounter issues, feel free to leave a comment so I can improve future updates.

Known lacking areas/issues

  • At the moment it's not possible to craft tipped arrows, I will be adding this in the future or replace it with a more fitting mechanic, like automatically shooting tipped arrows when standing in a lingering cloud (or just both).

This addon doesn't disable achievements!
